NUFFIELD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES

The Triennial International Nuffield Conference

The objectives of the several Nuffield Farming Trusts and Associations coming together in the International Scheme are broadly:

• By the giving of Trave / Study Awards; to promote agricultural, horticultural, forestry, countryside management, rural land based business and education, and to advance these disciplines by the application of new knowledge and experience introduced by returning Scholars. To encourage those who receive awards, by example, to play an active role in their industry and community.

By meeting together each three years the participating countries have in mind:

• To review the working of the International Scheme and agree such amendments as are from time to time necessary to keep Nuffield Scholars as leaders in their field.
• To provide an opportunity for participants to study aspects of rural industry wherever in the world should be agreed to be most appropriate between the Scholar and the Scholar’s selectors.
• To provide a forum for the participants to meet together and debate current matters and engender a spirit of progress and renewal.

The Annual Contemporary Scholars Conference (CSC)

In February/March of each year, the Nuffield participating countries (United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Canada, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Australia) recently selected Scholars will come together for one week in a mutually agreed country.

The CSC has been established by Nuffield International to “Consider agriculture and trade in a global context, farming in 2015 and 2050, understand consumer issues, world trade/agri-politics and discuss leadership issues.”

The CSC also welcomes delegates from programmes with similar objectives in non Nuffield countries with the objective to create a truly international forum for the next generation of leaders in agriculture.

The program will include presentations and group discussions on global issues of concern to farmers, leadership issues and will include visits to Farms, Co-operatives, Research and Food processing / marketing.
